Purse and Shoe Cake

Happy birthday Mzz Pretty!! This is a chocolate cake covered with fondant. I really try to do most of my work in buttercream, but sometimes to get the desired look I have to go with fondant. I highly recommend covering the cake in ganache instead of buttercream before applying the fondant. This is a fantasy purse/cosmetic bag. It has a different look than what I originally  intended to make, and that is what makes cake decorating so fun. The shoe is made of gumpaste, and the logo was pressed in with small clay lettering tools. There are a lot of neat tools in the clay aisle. :o)

3D Elmo Cake

It amazes me how small little details really make a big difference. For instance, Elmo's eyes (those 2 tiny white dots really bring his eyes to life). This is the second Elmo (stand up) that I have made. It is definitely easier the second time around. My first Elmo (pictured earlier on the site) had some issues....like he shrunk because I did not allow enough time for all of the cake to settle. I recommend using fondant instead of rice krispies for  his arms and legs, and making sure the cake drum is large enough. Also, keep a picture handy and do not guess about placement of parts (if you notice on my first Elmo the eyes are pretty far apart and he looks scared). Happy Caking!!

Lightning McQueen Cake

Unfortunately, I never got around to taking a finished picture. I ran out of time and he had to be delivered. This is a yellow cake covered with ganache and then with fondant. I did not go too crazy tinting the fondant red because I, also, was going to use my airbrush. I love to airbrush fondant because it actually dries and you can touch it unlike buttercream (where every little ding leaves a mark that is impossible to fix). I used a variety of cutters for the embellishments. The tires were made ahead of time out of fondant and allowed 3 days to dry. How cute!

49th Anniversary Cake

This was a very nice cake to make for my friend's parents wedding anniversary. It is chocolate cake and buttercream icing. It is a two layer heart shaped cake. The picture that was given to me had a red ribbon around the bottom, but I thought a border of tiny red hearts would be a nice substitute. Wow, 49 years!! Happy Anniversary Linda and Bob!!

Football Cake

This is a chocolate cake with more chocolate cake :o) I really like using a buttercream base and adding fondant embellishments. The football is covered in buttercream icing. I then took a paper towel with texture and very lightly pressed it onto the surface of the ball until I got the desired look. Next I airbrushed the ball which gave it a bit of a shine, but also I could give it some depth. I used the grass tip to finish the turf. Looks good!

Happy Birthday/ Valentine's Day Cake

Kniesha is my friend Iesha's twin sister. Happy birthday and Valentine's Day to you both. :o)

A Chocolate Covered Strawberry Cake

This cake is covered half in buttercream and half in chocolate. Next time I do this cake I will certainly use a strip of paper to achieve a crisper line between the chocolate and strawberry. I would do the icing first and then pour the chocolate and next  remove the strip, and not try to match the halves together. The seeds are little bits of rolled fondant, and the leaves are made out of modeling chocolate. Yummmy!

A Love Bug Cake

A Love Bug for Ladybug (a nickname). This critter is red velvet with cream cheese icing. The head is a gigantic cake ball dipped in black candy melts. The antennas are toothpicks covered in fondant and topped with tiny hearts. The lady bug has 3 heart shaped spots on her because that is Ladybug's favorite number. What a great and thoughtful surprise!

A Birthday Cake for ME

Today is my birthday :o) I asked my husband if he was going to make me a cake, and he said "no". lol. He then decided if I would bake it, he would decorate it. I really like the time saving method of using malt balls for the border. Also, for the writing he chose a sweetheart that says Time 2 Dance. The chocolate fudge cake is almost covered in cream cheese frosting. Yummmy!!
